I loovovoovoovve rain, although sunshine is my preferred weather (er, non-weather? :P). Thankfully today’s just an “inside” day anyway– laundry, cooking, child-care, cleaning. This is what I threw on this morning- simple, easy, and minorly cheerful to brighten the day.

Yes, I’m wearing a ponytail/messy bun. I really try not to “just throw it up” because sometimes it’s hard to encourage myself to put just that little bit more effort into my appearance. Today, though, with all the chores I’ll be doing, I needed my hair out of my way. Notice I didn’t just slick it back- I’ve kept the little pouff that was still in my hair since Wednesday… πŸ˜› Helps with the “intentionally messy” look. πŸ˜€

This is one of the tanks I got at Walmart this week! I shortened the straps to raise the neckline.

Shirt: I’ve had it for so long, I’ve forgotten where it came from. So long, in fact, that when I put it on it was so stretched out I had to take in the bottom of the sides so that it would be flattering again. πŸ˜›
Tank: Walmart, simple tutorial here on how I shortened the straps
Skirt: Made by me
Flip flops: Old Navy
Anklet: Walmart
Earrings: Walmart

Well, better go get started on those duties– hope everyone has an awesome Friday! Sorry about the summer clothes, folks-in-the-snow, but warm weather is here in full force!

Do you try to match or defy your clothes to the weather?

  1. Hey! I just found your blog a couple nights ago, and I love it!!! I'm from Arkansas, so we are having some beautiful summer showers here too.
I have never thought of altering my clothes, instead of buying new ones, but you have inspired me to go through my wardrobe and start fixing. I'm not a very good seamstress, but, it will be fun to see what happens!

  2. Very cute!! I love the tank!!!! It rained here yesterday morning. I think it rained last night too. everything has that wet it just rained look and feel! I love that! I think it's beautiful! It was sprinkling a little this morning too! What do you mean by match or defy your clothes to the weather?

    1. Hmm. I never really thought about that or paid attention to it. Weather or not the colors I wear matches the weather,

  3. I actually used to do my hair like this a lot. It didn't stay very well because of my hair length and type, and I didn't really like the way it looked, but I needed a quick updo to keep my hair out of the way while cooking, cleaning and doing animals. Recently I have been doing the messy bun and then securing it with a large clip. Again I don't really like how it looks but it's the best. I can come up with.

  4. Cute! I really like how the little poof keeps your messy bun looking cute and classy.(:
I don't know how often I match my clothes to the weather, but definitely to the temperature! Right now it's still sweater weather here!

  5. That skirt you made is *SO* cute! I want to make one very similar now. πŸ˜‰ I've been needing another denim skirt but wanted it slightly more cutesy and "dressier" than just a plain denim skirt that I already have. This looks perfect! I love lace, too.

I love your idea about shortening the tank top straps to make it more modest. Really, I should have thought to do that before now! πŸ˜‰ Lol! I don't buy them usually as they aren't modest enough for me but now I can! Thank you for that tip!

  6. Olivia,
thanks for commenting on my blog! πŸ™‚
I've been wondering, had you ever considered selling skirts online? You have such cute skirts that you've made! I for one would buy them (if priced reasonably).
I know what you mean about the shirt, I bought a green (super cute) shirt from Old Navy one time, and it fit perfectly, to begin with. After about three days, it stretched out to 3 TIMES its size! Maddening!

    1. Natasha, I used to sell my skirts back when my blog first started, but my time and focus have shifted now and sadly I'm not able to make skirts to sell- I can hardly keep up with my own wardrobe! πŸ™‚ Plus, I hate charging a price I wouldn't want to pay for a skirt, but, to make it worth my time, I would have to charge a lot for it. πŸ˜›
oh, that *is* maddening! I've been trying to shrink some things lately by washing/drying them on hot/high, but it doesn't do too much. πŸ˜›

  7. I'm really glad you mentioned taking in your stretched out top. I am on a diet and already some things are looking too loose. I don't have money to replace alot of clothes. Plus, the top I wore today is one I really like, it's just starting to look too big. So thanks, you've given me an idea of taking it (and a few others) in for a more fitted and flattering shape.

  8. Not sure why I haven't thought about stitching straps to raise the neckline of tank tops. I've been wearing Old Navy one's backwards (under other shirts of course). But this is a great solution when there is a tag. Thanks for the tip.

  9. This is a really cute outfit!! I have a shirt that is very similar to the one your wearing. πŸ™‚ BTW, do you take pictures of yourself on self-timer,(putting your camera on like a post or railing on you balcony or something,) or do you have a sibling take the pictures for you? just wondering because your pictures look like thy're on the same level every time. πŸ™‚

    1. Hey Andrea! The ones that are all on the same level, I use the self-timer and put the camera on the ironing board in our room and point it out the door to the balcony. πŸ˜€ If the pictures look different, Willa's taken them for me. πŸ™‚ I can't decide which style I like better- all the same, or some different angles. What do you think?

  10. Hmmmmm….. it depends. I like the more "formal" shots, because they sometimes show a little more detail on your outfit. But then those "hey! I'm getting bored of this stuff. Slide down the banister!" shots are all fun too. πŸ˜‰ Maybe you could do a couple "regular, stand here and smile" shots and then a couple of, "jump in the air and see how high you can go!" shots. I really don't know though, but since your the author of this blog, it *should* be your choice. πŸ™‚

  11. MESSY? Girl, you look stunning. Ugh, how can you make everything look good? lol And your hair??? πŸ™‚

Oh I taught my sister to take pictures via manual settings on my Nikon so I don't have to worry about breaking my camera while taking pictures. Lovely photos Olivia as usual! πŸ˜€ (Fyi-I want to raid your closet sometime)

  12. Could you post about diet and fitness. There are so many blogs that are not done modestly about the subject. It would be really great.

  13. Cute, cute, cute! (besides the outfit, the model is adorable. πŸ˜‰ ) Great job with the flow of colors/patterns! Now I'm going to have to fetch my ruffly jean skirt out from hiding. πŸ˜€
