Hey y’all! Okay, so I don’t actually hunt. I would if I had a gun, time, and inclination to get up at 4 am to sit in the cold and kill stuff. But, so far the universe has not brought those things together for me so I’ll continue on with my life and think about fixin to hope maybe one day they will. Until then, I’ll just take the oh-so-fabulous fashions the practice provides as inspiration for my occasionally country-fied wardrobe.

The slogan for this blog is “Dress outside your box, but inside His book!” This look is definitely outside my norm. But I like it! If you’ve been reading Fresh Modesty for more than a few months, you probably know that I’m not a country girl… or, at least I don’t call myself that. But, I believe in growing where you’re planted, so here I am looking like a tree in the middle of nowhere.  O.o  Sometimes we just need to branch out and leaf our inhibitions behind.

In reality, I was just looking for an easy outfit to wear to run errands in that would hide the mud that jumps from the side of the car onto me. This skirt is great for that. The shirt has gotten too tight to wear by itself with this skirt, so I needed something to go over it… enter my new favorite tunic top! I’ve been wearing it with jeans (it’s a hi-low style), but thought, hey, why not embrace the season and wear blaze orange with my camo skirt! Tying the front made it flattering for wearing with a skirt. It’s hard to tell from these pictures, but the tunic is kind of sheer and I think that helps it not be quite so bright in person. πŸ™‚
Shirt: Walmart: $5?
Tunic: JCPenny’s: $3
Skirt: Made by Me: Fabric: $0
Boots (unseen): HushPuppies: $185
Earrings: Walmart: $1.50

You’re allowed to say you hate this outfit. πŸ˜‰ Part of growing my personal style is through a lot of trial and error and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. But, I think I like this one, even though it’s weird.

What kinds of ways have you been getting out of your box lately?

  1. Hi Olivia ! It's so amazing to log on to my bloglovin' and discover a new pot of Fresh Modesty every time I do it !
I'll be completly honnest with : I really like this outfit ! It's also really weird to me to say this kind of thing, but hey, why would we always be wearing denim skirt and classic tops ?! I've been into camo lately (not fault actually, my PhD grant comes from the french army, which forced me to develop some interests into everything army-related !) and made myself a top and skirt with camo fabric. I haven't worn my skirt recently (it's a bit controversial to wear this kind of garment at my lab !) but I've enjoyed wearing my camo top with black denim skirt ! So, a mossy oak skirt is really cool ! πŸ˜‰ Just on thing : I like the knot in the front of the tunic, yet I think (personal opinion !) that the way the fabric goes aroung your back is not really modest…I hope I'm not being rude, but I just wanted to share, because otherwise this outfit is plain cute and really modest !
Blessings and have a merry christmas!

    1. That's awesome you've been getting into camo, too! Never thought about a camo shirt before…. hmmm… I'll have to ponder that one. πŸ˜‰ Not rude at all to point that out. That picture has been bothering me since I included it in the post. Sometimes pictures are great and sometimes it's annoying that simply because they are a capture of just a fraction of a second of time, they put emphasis on one thing or another that isn't noticeable in person. So, I swapped out that picture. πŸ™‚ Thanks for being honest!

  2. Super cute. πŸ™‚ If I wore it my siblings would probably gawk, but I sorta, kinda, like it! Blaze orange and camo are definitely out of my comfort zone, but you've inspired me to try new things. The curls and earrings really pulled the look together, I have to say!

  3. This outfit is super cute! The theme is clearly 'in touch with the season' (deer?) and appropriate. I really like it.

  4. Absolutely love this outfit! I don't think it would really work for me (my family does absolutely nothing hunting-related, although people do hunt on our property), but it looks great on you. Different, but adorable.

  5. Olivia, I know you say you aren't a country girl but you can certainly pull of the look. πŸ˜‰ I like how this outfit says "work" but still looks so sweet and feminine. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Love it!! I myself might not wear the vest, πŸ™‚ but on you it looks great. Did you make that skirt? If so, what pattern did you use? When my sisters and I were younger our dad used to tease us to buy camo fabric to make skirts, since he liked hunting. Back then, I thought NO girl would ever do that! But now… I rather like it. I might make one sometime. πŸ™‚

    1. Oh, Olivia, I just now noticed you said in the actual post that you made the skirt. I must have not been paying attention at all! *blush* Sorry!!!

  7. Oh MY! Just this morning my youngest daughter and I were looking through a catalog with some "girly" cameo. I commented that I liked the pink and she still preferred the green. (It was still in a girly design.) She asked me why I didn't like the green and I replied that I wasn't sure except I am very girly:)

But then I see this, and as usual, you changed my mind about it! (I don't like orange either!) This is absolutely adorable and I can't wait to show her this! Is there anything you can't pull off?!

  8. How could we say we hate it?! πŸ˜› That's such an awesome outfit! (but then, I have been "hunting" sorta…so it appeals to me πŸ˜‰
I actually have the material to make myself a camo skirt over Christmas break and I've been looking at yours to get ideas! πŸ˜€

  9. I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! COOL!!! My modest look is so plain, I want to change that but have a hard time finding modest tops. I sew but with work and ministry school, time is limited. What type of camo fabric did you use? God bless you. You inspire me so very much.

    1. Thanks so much! I just ordered a halftee! I've seen you wear them and I decided to get one. Can't wait to get it. I live in the south and it gets VERY hot and humid in the summer. I am hoping the halftee will solve my problems so I can wear it under my maxi dresses modestly. God bless!

  10. You should have seen the camp tuxedo jacket that was made by Mrs. Simpson for out Twelfth Night Ball last year! I personally hate camp, but I do admire folks who find ways to use what is available and maybe meant for immodesty, like your orange tunic, in a way that encourages modesty. Living the Christian life should be joyful! πŸ™‚

  11. I love it!! It's so cute and definitely "outside your box, but inside His Book." And the entire outfit was such a good deal–only $9.50 (excluding the boots, of course, but then, you have to pay if you want really great boots)! Have you shared on your blog your tips for frugal shopping? (I know you did a recent post about "what I spend on things"–I need to take another peek at it.)

  12. That is SOOOOOOO cool! I love it!!! I so need to get a skirt like this… The bright orange goes really well, too!
P.S. Have you ever tried wearing a pink shirt with this skirt? Pink and camo seem to be a big thing these days. πŸ™‚

  13. I love your skirt! The original post inspired me to make one of my own. My family tries to go camping once a year, and camo is perfect for when you are crawling in and out if a tent. I made mine more of a 50's style circle skirt and it is one of my favorite skirts, I wear it almost once a week.

  14. Olivia,

I was browsing through some of your older posts and found some 'Friends of Fresh Modesty' posts. Are you still accepting those?

I love this outfit as well! What colour season are you?

  15. Olivia,
This outfit is SO cute! I love how the orange just pops! It adds great color to camo. My sister LOVES camo and this looks like something she would wear. I'm not very country either but I do like my cowgirl boots and to ride horses. πŸ™‚ This is great outfit! LOVE it!

  16. Really cute outfit! I LOVE camo stuff…the only thing that could make this outfit better is if it was Mossy Oak instead of Realtree. πŸ˜‰
A while ago I made a denim-and-camo skirt, with a panel of Mossy Oak, and the rest denim. Then I made a purse out of the extra camouflage. πŸ™‚ Oh, and a CD-holder-slot-thingy for my car. lol. (I'm sure you could tell that I like country stuff, though, from the outfit I just sent in for FOFM.) πŸ˜‰

    1. I assume your comment means you think that's too expensive for boots? However if you divide the price by the number of times you have worn/expect to wear the item, you might be surprised at how reasonable the price is.

Who knows how often Olivia plans to wear these boots? Maybe she's going to live in them, you don't know. If they're well-made, they'll be worth every cent.

    2. Plus she worked for the money and paid for the boots, who cares how much she spent? They would be good quality too. I guess you would be shocked how much I spend on good quality jewelry, so I will spare you the details lol πŸ™‚

    3. Esther & Andrea

No I don't necessarily think they're too expensive. For that price I would assume they are good quality & super comfy. I was just curious because most of Olivia's purchases are bargains (as per the prices of the items that she lists on this blog), so I was a bit surprised at the price of the boots. Andrea, no I wouldn't be shocked at how much you spend on good quality jewelery, thank you for sparing me the details, lol.

  17. Hi Olivia! I have problem, I'm going to go horseback riding, so I will need to wear jeans. I don't mind them, but mine are now too little for me and I don't have a Tunic! :/ I might go shopping before then, but if not, do have any other tips to make them modest?
    Thanks! Merry CHRISTmas!

    1. I got a shirt from the mall that covers my rear end vary nicely! I'm SO happy! Thank you so much! I probably would not be near as modest as I am now, with out reading your blog! Thank you so much for your encouragement about being modest and being godly!
      Thanks again! Blessings!

  18. I'm not a huge fan of sewing…but I'm capable, and I might just try making a camo skirt it looks amazing. By the way. Thank you for making this blog it's proof I'm not alone, and that Modesty IS important =) Keep going girl! πŸ˜€

  19. Love love love this outfit. I am now on the "hunt" to find something similar for myself. (i just couldn't help it)
