Hey y’all! Thought I’d share a quick outfit post while I wait for some dishes to soak in the sink. πŸ˜‰ This is what I wore on my birthday this past Saturday.

The activities of the day were hauling chicken houses across town in the rain, hanging out at the Arts and Ag Harvest Market (here’s what I wore last year) with friends, and getting together again for chocolate and a bonfire late in the evening. This outfit lasted through all of that, although admittedly I changed shoes and threw some jeans on under the dress (was not a fan of the look though) for the first and last activities of the day since it was chilly. Last year at the Arts and Ag we knew two of the families that had booths and this year we personally knew eight vendors. Love how relationships grow in small towns and how entrepreneurial our friends are!

This sweater dress I’ve had for probably 2 years but never wore it because it was very baggy under the arms. I finally altered it and love it! Should have taken my jacket off for pictures, but like I said, it was chilly!

Sweater dress: Sears? : London Style Brand: $8
Jacket: Thrift Store: Old Navy Brand: $5
Boots: Hush Puppies Brand: $145
Earrings: Thrift Store: $2

Being my birthday and all, I decided to spend a little extra time doing my hair (although it really only took as long as curling does). This was the mess it was after a day in the rain and wind, but I had fun doing it. I looked at a picture on Pinterest for inspiration. It’s basically a teased-top low sock bun with waterfall braids wrapped around, and then I curled some fly-aways. πŸ™‚

Remember how I told y’all I had pulled a muscle while shopping? Well, these are the boots I was oh-so-desperately in search of. I looked the whole mall over for this height of shaft and fell in love with this style. They were expensive, but I’ve already worn them enough to make them worth it. I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of brown flat boots for over 2 years so I am sooo happy to finally have these! They have a funky back detail that I wasn’t sure of at first, but now looooove.

Better get back to the dishes. Y’all have an awesome day! Do you have any fall festivals in your town?

  1. Happy belated birthday! πŸ™‚ This outfit is cute! Your boots are wonderful. πŸ˜€
In our county we have an apple festival, two medieval festivals and various other events in September and October. It's seems like the busiest time of year, actually!

  2. Happy {belated} Birthday!

This outfit is probably my favourite of all those you have blogged!! The dress is the perfect green and such a steal at $8! Nice hairdo and boots, too. πŸ™‚

  3. Happy Birthday! I totally understand looking for boots of that height. Anything longer doesn't look right when you wear your dresses/skirts over the knee.

  4. Happy birthday! I knew you had said it was coming up, but couldn't remember if it was this month or November.

About the small towns thing – isn't that the best part? Just… how quickly and easily you can discover you know half the people in town! I grew up in a veeeeeery tiny town in the Midwest and now live in a mid-sized city (albeit, on the outskirts/country part; thank God for Southern cities that keep some country feel!) and I really miss knowing half the faces at the Fall Festival. Ah, well.

The sweater-dress is cute! And really, those boots are exceptional. You definitely made the right choice; with leather boots/shoes, you really do get what you pay for. Pay a little more, oil the leather occasionally, and you'll keep 'em for years.

  5. Happy Late birthday! your hair looks incredible, I absolutely love it!! :)) Also those boots <3 <3 Sometimes when you find the perfect things they are absolutely worth investing in!

  6. A very happy birthday to you Olivia!
Great outfit! How perfect for this cooler weather! I know what you mean about boots! I also have been looking for some. I finally bought some- for $65.For me that was alot because it is hard for me to spend $8 at goodwill for just about any pair! πŸ™‚ I am still in search for some that I can wear more as only styling with- hope to find them soon!
So pretty 'hairs'! πŸ™‚ I need to try this style!
We do have a fall fest around here. We just had it this past week!
    Many, many blessing to you!

  7. Happy 21st Birthday, Olivia!

LOVE that sweater dress! The color is awesome! I have one (different style, though) that's a bit shorter than yours, so I always wear something underneath. Like you, I tried jeans, but didn't really like that look, either. Then I tried it with jeggings, and actually really liked it that way! Normal leggings would also work, I'm sure…I just like the look of the jeans without the bulk. πŸ™‚

  8. Happy late birthday, Olivia!
I LOVE your hair! It's so boho chic! Definitely something I should try with my hair…if I can figure it out…LOL!

I know they have fall festivals in town, but my family has decided fall festivals aren't for us. Most of them around here involve Halloween in someway (we don't celebrate Halloween) and the only one we went to last year was really lame and boring…so…LOL! How's that for a bummer comment! LOL! Sorry! πŸ™‚
Out of curiosity, I have to ask what "chilly" for you means? I always ask people to clarify, because my idea of chilly and someone else's are always vastly different! For instance, it's been around 60deg F here in Montana for the last week, and I'm loving it! Although I keep overdressing for the weather and wearing too warm of clothing! πŸ˜‰

Chilly to me means anything under eh… 75*? This week it's been in the 50's though so that's chilly to more than just me. πŸ˜‰ I used to live where we'd swim in 75* weather and think it was great! Now… not so much. πŸ˜‰

  9. Happy Birthday, Olivia! May God bless you abundantly in this coming year to draw closer to Him and be encouraged in the work He has called you to.

Thank you for blessing so many of us with this blog. πŸ™‚

  10. Aw! Happy birthday dahhhling!:D I hope this year brings you ever closer to the Savior! Love the hair and dress!:D What a find for only $8 πŸ˜›

  11. great outfit, head to toe!

  12. Olivia, I have a fall birthday too, one more thing I feel I share in kinship with you. Funny how nice it is to feel connected to the world around you to souls who don't know you personally, but feeling togetherness in unity is such a craving for the human soul! I wanted to get pictures of my birthday outfit but didn't. So neat what service you got into on your birthday! I like that you stuck jeans on underneath for the practical aspect, it reminds me of my daughters.
For my birthday, husband took the crew, a lovely service to me, and I sewed myself a night gown, and then went on a date with my husband to a thrift store, took pictures of dishes I might someday draw for a recipe book, bought yarn to make little things for my children's stockings, and went to a noodles store and a book store and got old books. My night gown has such pretty fabric but is really a night tent! πŸ™‚ I should take in the seams like you said you finally did with your dress, but having zig zagged the seams nicely, I hate at this point to re-do it.

I love the posts above of remembered outfits, they have a really pretty autumn look to them which I love. That hair do is so Jane Austin and really romantic/ beautiful!

I am posting my pregnancy pictures this time because I am trying to wear those things that are me, make me feel happy and match my personality, and so importantly are modest.

Because you inspired me with a post on why you share, it helped me get past my inhibitions of sharing my pregnancy outfits that from the beginning I wanted to share with others to encourage them in modesty and wearing those clothes on their temples that show their personalities in beautiful, but modest and even practical ways. (Being a mother that practical/functional aspect takes a precedence.) So here is the link for you to check out, (this last post is really a very favorite outfit…but I am way behind now being 7 months, and this is the beginning of my bump) and for mommy's reading your blog who are pregnant too.

Also Olivia I have some really cute pictures of my swim suit I made and I want to post soon too, but one compliment a random hiker gave me, while so nicely covered and swimming with my littles at a creek was, "Hi Sunny lady in the bonnet with the big crew!" ~I have five kids and was wearing a white hat with my yellow modest swim suit, and was having a very nice time with my children!

Happy Birthday to you, belated! πŸ™‚
